E-Verify and Tax Laws, No Problem
By editor on February 17, 2009
Labor laws and tax laws can be a very big headache for employers to deal with. Considering that actions and fines for non-compliance can be expensive and even cost you your business, adherence to these laws must be a priority. It’s sad to say, however, that the laws surrounding both seem to be in a constant state of fluctuation, making it that much harder to stay on top of them for all but the largest companies. Thankfully, choosing to outsource many of the seemingly tedious, yet critical administrative duties with a PEO can make compliance to tax and labor laws easier than you ever thought possible. In Arizona, for example, the Arizona Legal Workers Act requires all employers operating in Arizona under an Arizona business license to use the federal government’s E-Verify program to verify the status of new employees. While the E Verify program is currently free to employers and available in all 50 states, the task of checking out all your employees can be daunting. Currently the bill states that this regulation only applies to new hires, but given that legal commentators have indicated that it could be applied to all employees, the safest route is to fully comply, as anything less could be cause for a business to be shut down. Fortunately this requirement can be taken care of very simply. National PEO can take care of all your Human Resource needs including this one. From recruiting to ensuring compliance with all federal or state labor laws, you can trust that we’ve got your back. Our human resource team has the experience and knowledge needed to ensure that compliance with regulations like E-Verify and form I9 are heeded as well all other labor laws. In fact, Arizonians must be in agreement; we’ve been voted #1 Arizona PEO for 2007 and 2008.
In addition to labor laws, Federal, State and local tax laws always seem to be a source of stress to the small business owner. Hiring staff with tax proficiency is not always easy, especially since this is an area that many business owners are not strong in to start with. Yet you want your company to be able to take advantage of every available tax break while complying strictly with all tax laws in a timely fashion. This is yet another area that you can be confident in, when you choose National PEO as your Payroll Outsourcing Company . With our expertise and extensive knowledge in tax law we will make sure that your tax filing maximizes your benefits and minimizes your losses within the context of all applicable laws. We can even take care of your unemployment and year-end taxes, as well. You can breathe easy with National PEO in your corner. We can knock out two of your biggest potential problems and that’s only the beginning. We can handle a variety of payroll and administrative duties on your behalf. Choose the services you need and give us a chance to work for you.

Apple Goes Mini
By editor on October 30, 2008
Steven Spielberg’s cinematic dreams began with an 8 mm camera gifted by his father to help the fearful, high-strung, 8-year-old cope with his emotions. Today’s hopeful filmmakers are more likely to skip school with one of the latest mini-dvd recorders and return home to pop their latest vision onto a desktop computer for a quick edit and download on the internet. Granted, the quality of the final product may not be as high as corporate Hollywood, but neither is the cost of equipment.
Today’s independent filmmakers are turning to an increasingly affordable array of computers and software programs to produce films that are giving the big dogs a run for their money. The Apple Mac Mini is a giant advance in tiny technology in the world of laptops. This ultra-small desktop computer measures 6.5 inches wide, 6.5 inches long and 2 inches tall. It weighs in at only 2.9 pounds and does not even ship with a keyboard and mouse.
In fact, this is only one of many moves by Apple to go “mini.” They made a splash recently, for instance, with the ipod mini as well as ipod mini accessories.
Apple introduced the Mac Mini along with the ipod shuffle at the Macworld Conference & Expo on January 11, 2005. Both small products have smaller price points. Industry analysts see this as an effort by Apple to appeal to a broader, lower income market.
The lightweight Mini is heavy on processing speed and software applications. It ships with Apple’s Mac OS X Leopard operating system installed and the iLife suite of Apple applications to allow users the ability to create videos, music and dvds. With a base price of only $599, future filmmakers can stay in touch with their creativity with software products such as Adobe Premiere Pro.
Hollywood make-up artist turned filmmaker, Robert Hall, applied his graphic design experience with Adobe Photoshop to film editing with Adobe Premiere Pro software. The integration between the two programs avoids frustrating format changes and saves money in the editing lab. These user-friendly programs minimize techno interruptions that can inhibit the creative flow.
The new wave of low budget, small size computer equipment is supported by equally easy buying options. Online retailers such as www.superwarehouse.com offer thousands of products such as quality laptops from leading manufacturers, to the ipod mini, and more–along with competitive pricing, immediate shipping and technical support.
The latest advances in laptops may not be able to solve plot or talent issues but the trend goes a long way toward shedding light on independent visions. In a world increasingly controlled by corporate media and popular trends, guerrilla filmmaking may soon have more impact than guerilla warfare.
From the mini camcorders to easy editing tools, You Tube and Video on Demand, tomorrow’s vision may be that of the common man. Quite soon, aspiring filmmakers may find that an “apple a day”, means an all-in-one film studio, tucked neatly away in their backpack.

Check Please, When You Order Checks From Carousel.
By editor on October 28, 2008
What an incredible variety there is at Carousel Checks. Organized under themes, simple (but not plain) and business, whatever your needs you will find them at this site. And they are easy to order, too. The only part of this site that will take a little time to cover, is deciding exactly what kinds of checks and what checkbook cover you want to buy. Themes include (but are not limited to) American Pride, Sports, Ethnic, Roller Coasters and Seasonal. Their business checks come in several varieties and there are even checks to be used on your computer.
What about an already created logo to represent your interests? I have many areas that hold my attention and I just checked out their logo page. What about an antique car logo? I saw some Model Ts on there. That would be great for a car collector or someone, like me, who has had a wonderful ride in an old Model T. We used a real model T in a recent stage musical we helped with, called Ragtime.
Own a business that makes crafts, or do you knit? Have a favorite hobby? Do you love ships or have a lot of grandchildren you love? The photo checks can be used in many different ways and for many different and for many different interests. If you have a photography business this would be a good way to highlight it. You could put some samples of your favorite images on there – a great way to advertise!
What about checks with castles on them? I ordered those last time and they look great. Even if you’ve never been in a castle but just love them, these checks can remind you of the olden days and knights in shining armor (or, contemporary re-creations which I know some people are into). And some of us may actually live in a castle so these personal checks would be extremely appropriate.
Even if you live in a modest home, or perhaps have an interest in old architecture around your city, you could have checks printed up with those buildings on them.
Don’t forget a to order a checkbook cover for your newly designed checks. I am partial to light brown, or green, and wouldn’t that look great with some personalized Photo Checks with tabby cat photos on them? Or – what about a pretty pink cover with photos of your garden – your pride and joy – inside, for perhaps the summer or spring?
As a sometime artist I am into primary colors (depending on my mood). Getting several checkbook covers in red, blue, green, yellow, or orange would be so pretty. Also, if you are a computer nut, a checkbook cover in black or a futuristic color like dark blue, would be great. Don’t forget that textures are available also, to give your cover a nice “hand feel” quality.

Staying Out of Debt with a Debt Consolidation Plan of Action
By editor on September 19, 2008
As much as I hate to admit it, my family and I are struggling. This economy is not a joke at all. It seems almost every week economists argue whether or not this country is in a recession. Some say “yes” while others say “no”. Well, I’m a mom and I can tell you straight off that this country is in recession. All I have to do is take a trip to the grocery store and that seals the deal for me. I have never seen the cost of eggs and milk and meat be so high. I can’t believe it!
It is really hard to have to cut back on the things we have enjoyed doing as a family like traveling and eating out, but times are hard, gas is high, and so is everything else. Our electric bill has gone up steadily for the past three months, which is quite ridiculous. And I lost my job as a part-time receptionist at a doctor’s office; my boss just brought his wife to take my place when once she was a stay-at-home mom. I can’t fault him, he had to do what he had to do to keep his business afloat. Plus, he gave me a nice financial package for doing a great job over the years when I left. Since then it’s been harder and harder to make it every day. Since I haven’t been able to supplement my income, we’ve begun living off our credit cards. What a real bridge to nowhere! Using your credit cards for everything is not a good feeling. In fact, it is really the pits.
My husband and I sat down the other day and decided that we were going to put out heads together, cut back, way back, and think about debt consolidation. We have always been great with our bills and our credit was great, but over the past six months, things have not been good at all. Sometimes it seems as though we are the only ones struggling so badly, but surely there have to be others out there who are struggling just as much as we are. Being riddled with debt and not being able to pay your bills on time is not a happy place to be.
One of the things that made my husband and I decide to get our finances in order was the phone calls and letters from debt collectors. I can barely even sleep at night anymore knowing that in the morning while I am at home with the kids I will get four or five calls a day asking us to pay our bills. The thing is, we know we have bills that are due. We just need a little extra time paying them. So, eventually my husband and said enough is enough. We are getting our finances under control before it becomes too much and we can’t control it at all.
I grew up in a house that was torn apart, really, by financial instability. It’s not a fun place to be. I don’t want my kids seeing me stressed out and I hate being stressed out myself. We are going to do something about it and fast and get this monkey off our backs!

Managing Your Assests To More Cash
By on September 11, 2008
The woman who manages her assets well has an edge. She knows what she’s worth, she knows how to make the most of it, and she is in constant development. She also guards her assets like a pit bull, making sure debt and poor credit stay out of the picture. She understands that it is less difficult to take what you have and enhance it than to reconstruct something that has been damaged.
Whether or not you fit this description yet, you can become this kind of woman. Instead of letting Jennifer’s story defeat you, let it inspire you.
The positive net worth woman is intentional and proactive:
- She knows her assets.
- She plans.
- She seeks advice.
- She is insured.
- She Budgets.
Let’s look at each of these qualities and learn from her.
As you know, an asset in the broadest sense is something of value. In the narrower sense, it is money or something that if you were to sell it would result in money. Common assets are homes, cars, boats, jewelry, gold, stocks, bonds, trusts, certain collectibles, and notes on loans.
Asset management is simply organizing and overseeing your assets in much the same way as you organize your home, family, and career. I want to remind you, by the way, that you are your biggest asset. You are the one whose mind and actions can produce more cash through smart asset management.
